Sweden to remove ethanol import tariffs

During a visit to Sweden by the Brazilian president Lula the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding to co-operate on ethanol development. But more important the Swedish government decided to remove all import tariffs on ethanol from non-EU countries as of 1 January 2009. This would make ethanol from Brazil, but also countries like Pakistan, India, and China, highly attractive for the Swedish market. Even though this seems like a breakthrough for global ethanol trade, Sweden must still get the approval from the European Commission.
