On behalf of the EBB secretary general Rafaello Garofalo has written a letter to the EU commissioner for trade, Peter Mandelson, to complain about the growing influx of 99.9% biodiesel blends from the USA.
By blending the biodiesel with a drop of regular diesel the US blenders can apply for the 1 $/gallon blending credit which equals to about 300 $/metric tonne. The blend is hence exported to the EU and sold at a much lower price than the EU biodiesel producers can offer. It even occurs that biodiesel from Malaysia and South America is shipped to the USA, blended with a drop of diesel and then shipped to the EU still competing with local EU biodiesel.
To protect EU biodiesel producers from this phenomenon Garofalo has written this letter requesting eMandelson to do something about this situation.
